Astellas Pharma supports Clown Doctors with a cash donation
Algol Pharma’s co-operation partner Astellas Pharma is supporting the work of the charity organisation Sairaalaklovnit ry – Sjukhusclowner rf (“Clown Doctors”) by donating 10,000 euros to each chapter in Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The donation was presented to the Finnish Clown Doctors at Algol House in Espoo.
The Clown Doctors are professional performers who visit children’s hospitals with the aim of providing joy and entertainment to the often serious everyday reality of small patients. They are specially selected and trained to entertain and relieve the daily burdens of children in hospitals. There are currently 29 Clown Doctors in Finland who visit child patients six days a week throughout the year at the Children’s Clinic and Children’s Castle (Lastenklinikka and Lastenlinna) in Helsinki and at other children’s hospitals in Tampere, Turku and Kuopio.
The Clown Doctors is an international charity movement that was established in New York in 1986 by Michael Christensen, a circus performer with Danish roots. His idea spread rapidly from the USA throughout the world. The Finnish chapter was founded in 2001 after Lilli Sukula-Lindblom had spent time in the USA on a Fulbright Scholarship to learn more about their activities. The cofounder and executive director of Sairaalaklovnit ry is Tom Lindblom.
