History
The Finnish multibranch importer and wholesaler Algol was established in 1894. Algol entered the pharmaceutical business in the 1930s, when the company was first authorised to trade pharmaceutical goods mainly raw materials.

In the 1950s, encouraged by the positive performance of its pharmaceutical sales, Algol expanded its operations to the broader healthcare sector of finished goods. A separate pharmaceutical division was created, and the first marketing authorisations were granted in the mid-1960s.

In 2004 Algol Pharma became one of three independent subsidiaries of the Algol Group alongside Algol Chemicals and Algol Technics.

Algol’s international expansion began in the mid-1990s in the Baltics and has continued after 2005 in Scandinavia.
